EiffelStudio 26.09 makes it easier to find and add libraries, adds new platforms, improves the GTK 3 experience on Linux, and adds several new libraries.
== Highlights ==
=== Find Library ===
The new '''Find Library''' dialog replaces "Add Library...". Open it from the Tools menu, the context menu, the Groups tool, the project toolbar or Project Settings.
* Search libraries or classes, with strict or non-strict matching and a category: criterion.
* Filter by category: official, contrib, precompiled, plus categories taken from package.iron files and IRON packages. You can choose which categories appear as filters.
* A details panel shows the description, void-safety, metadata, links and classes. From it you can install or uninstall IRON packages and set the location and name used in the project.
* "Add to project" updates and saves the current target, and offers to recompile when the dialog closes. Precompiled libraries can replace the current precompile.
* The IRON packages manager can now register and unregister IRON repositories.
* Library discovery follows the project section of package.iron, so the list no longer includes example and test ECFs.
=== Compiler ===
* Smarter common type for manifest arrays: typed manifest arrays like {ARRAY [T]} << ... >> are needed less often, especially with generic types. Attachment and separateness are kept.
* Fixed a wrong "Current used before initialized" error for non-object calls (bug#19974).
=== New platforms and tools ===
* '''Visual Studio 2026''' support.
* Linux packages are built on Ubuntu 24.04. libfcgi now builds with GCC 14 and later.
=== Linux / GTK 3 ===
* HiDPI, text scaling (GNOME, gtk-xft-dpi), multi-monitor, XWayland and drag-and-drop fixes. Fonts update live when desktop settings change.
* The IDE stays responsive again, and pixmap errors (BadValue) during resizing and docking are gone.
* File dialogs no longer abort when GSettings schemas are not found (GTK from Homebrew or MacPorts, or a relocated GTK).
* Dead keys followed by space now produce the composed character (e.g. " + space gives ").
* Docking: split positions are restored correctly when switching between normal and debug layouts, and tab bars resize properly.
=== EiffelStudio ===
* '''SCM tool''': a more compact toolbar. The commit button shows the active changelist, and its drop-down menu can manage changelists.
* Diagram zoom, context menu and multi-monitor window placement fixes. The cloud license dialog no longer freezes the IDE, and reconnecting to the license server is more reliable.
* Translations: French and Spanish are now complete. German, Russian and Chinese (simplified) are updated.
== New libraries ==
* '''ePDF''': read, write (full and incremental) and encrypt PDF 1.7 documents.
* '''EiffelTUI''': build terminal user interfaces with layouts, styled text, mouse and keyboard events, and a rich set of widgets.
* '''Markdown''': parser, plus XHTML and AST generation.
* '''YAML''' and '''BSON''': parsers and writers, with converters to and from JSON (yaml_json, bsonjson), and a shared '''stream''' input library.
* '''Crypto''': a cryptographically secure random number generator.
== Library improvements ==
* '''EiffelStore (MySQL/MariaDB)''': MariaDB works on Unix, a wider range of MySQL client versions is supported, and DATE and DECIMAL support is better. You can skip SSL checks and use the client section of ~/.my.cnf, which helps with MySQL 8. Connections to localhost: use TCP and report the real error.
* '''EiffelBase''': a fix for IMMUTABLE_STRING_8 substrings (thanks to Finnian Reilly).
* '''Web''': S3 client (list prefixes), HTTP Link: header, JSON is_boolean, WSF router and request helpers, DECIMAL accepts READABLE_STRING_8.
* '''Eiffel Web CMS''': mail web API, API key rotation and expiration, better export and import, DECIMAL and DATE storage support, a new template hook, and several fixes.
* '''Gobo 26.09''': SCOOP wait conditions in gec, contract views in gedoc, and more validity checks.
